Step 6: Conversations from TikTok Ads in YCloud

Once your ads are live, you can view new conversations driven by TikTok ads in YCloud Inbox and verify that source information is being recorded correctly.

What You Will See

When a user starts a WhatsApp conversation through a TikTok ad, the conversation will appear in YCloud Inbox. You can identify it as originating from a TikTok ad by the following:

  • Contact in the conversation list: A TikTok ad badge is displayed next to the contact's avatar.

  • Message from the contact: Source information is shown, for example, From TikTok Ad ID: xxx.

  • If the contact is initiating a conversation through this WhatsApp Business number for the first time, you can also see the following in the Contact details:

    • Source = TikTok Ad: Indicates this customer came from a TikTok ad.

    • Source ID = The specific TikTok ad ID the customer came from.

Step 7: Configure Ad Tracking Events & Send Data via CAPI

If you want TikTok to see lower funnel events (or other conversion event) to improve your ad performance, you need to complete the relevant event tracking configuration.

What Is Conversion?

Conversion postback refers to sending conversations or lower funnel event actions back to TikTok as events after a user clicks an ad and starts WhatsApp conversation. This helps TikTok evaluate delivery performance more accurately and provides data to support future optimization.

Supported Event Types

TikTok provides two different types of events:

  • Conversation event: The user starts a conversation in WhatsApp after clicking the ad.

  • Lower-funnel event: A key action the user completes after the conversation, such as registration, booking, placing an order, or making a payment.

Each ad account requires one set of CAPI conversion rules.

All ads under that account will report events based on these settings once you set the rules effective.

Steps

  1. In YCloud, go to CTWA β†’ Track Conversion Events.

  2. Click + Track New Event.

  • Event Name: A label for your reference only β€” used for internal management and does not affect ad reporting.

  • Event Type: Select the trigger condition for this reporting action. See details below.

  • TikTok Event: Select which lower-funnel event to report to TikTok. Single-select, required.

YCloud offers 3 options:

  • Tag Contact: When a specific tag is applied to a contact, one report is triggered.

  • Keyword: Set multiple keywords. When a potential customer mentions any of these keywords in a WhatsApp conversation, a report is triggered.

  • API + Custom Event: Create a custom event via the YCloud API, and use that event as the trigger condition for ad reporting.

Important Notes

We recommend completing the basic conversation event configuration first, then gradually adding deeper conversion events.

Step 8: View Ad Performance and Conversion Data

You can view delivery performance and conversation data in both TikTok Ads Manager and YCloud.

In TikTok Ads Manager

You can view ad-level metrics such as impressions, clicks, results, and cost in TikTok Ads Manager.

Meanwhile, you can also check the conversion event data reported to TikTok by YCloud under Events Manager > Datasets."
