TikTok Ad Tracking & Conversion

An introduction to the 2 most common events in TikTok Messaging Ads.

To achieve closed-loop optimization for ad delivery, YCloud needs to send key user behaviors from WhatsApp conversations back to TikTok as Track Events, in order to optimize ad performance.

TikTok Ad Event Types

Before configuring the ad event reporting workflow, you need to understand TikTok's 2 event types:

  • Messaging Events

  • Lower-Funnel Events

1. Messaging Events

When you run ads on TikTok, a potential customer clicks the ad and initiates a conversation with your WhatsApp number β€” this process is called a Messaging Event. YCloud automatically handles the data attribution and reporting for this process:

  • In Inbox chat messages and Contacts, data attributed to TikTok ads will be labeled with: TikTok and the corresponding Ad ID.

  • After a conversation occurs, we send the conversation behavior data to TikTok to facilitate ad audience profiling and analysis.

2. Lower-Funnel Events

Lower-funnel events are used to track deeper conversion behaviors that occur after a conversation (such as payment, registration, appointment booking, etc.), primarily for optimizing goals like "Lead Collection" or "Payment Completed."

Track Event Setup

Navigate to CTWA β†’ Track Events.

Select the TikTok ad account for which you want to configure event reporting, and begin the Track Event setup.

Each ad account requires one set of CAPI conversion rules. All ads under that account will report data according to these settings.

YCloud will automatically enable IM Events (Messaging Events) reporting to TikTok β€” i.e., informing TikTok which ads generated WhatsApp conversations. This is enabled by default and requires no configuration on your part.

When you need to add any lower-funnel event to report to TikTok:

Click + Track New Event

  • Event Name: Similar to a note β€” you can enter anything; it is only for your internal management and will not affect ad reporting.

  • Event Type: Select the trigger condition for this reporting behavior. See detailed explanationarrow-up-right.

  • TikTok Event: Select which lower-funnel event to report to TikTok. Single selection, required.

If you select an event but do not turn on the reporting toggle, YCloud will still track and collect the data for you, but it will not be reported to TikTok.

About Event Type

This represents: what rule you use to trigger an event report. YCloud provides 3 methods for you to choose from:

  • Contact Tag: When a specific tag is applied to a contact, it triggers one event report.

  • Keyword: Set multiple keywords. When a potential customer mentions these keywords in a WhatsApp conversation, it triggers an event report.

  • Custom Event: Create a custom event via YCloud's API, and use that event as the trigger condition for ad event reporting.
